Wellness is not good for your Well-being.

There is a difference between mental and emotional ‘well-being’ and ‘wellness’.  Yet we continue to look to spas, fitness retreats, social media ‘gurus’, self-help books, and apps to fast-track our wellness.  All promising different ways to better ourselves, whilst also being able to banish anxiety, heal trauma, diminish stress, and fill our cup with self-love!

We all face difficulties in life; bad relationships, a loved one’s mental health/illness, loneliness, anxiety, loss, divorce, it all takes its toll.  We are often left with very low self-esteem and self-belief, leaving us lost, anxious, and out of sorts.  These cannot be fixed with quick self-help wellness strategies.

No matter what people try and tell or sell you, there is no final ‘happiness’ destination. It is about getting to a place where you have the strength, self-confidence, and skills to handle life’s challenges (the big and the small).

“The most critical element that affects all aspects of human life is self-esteem”.

The most critical element that affects all aspects of human life is self-esteem.  It enables us to make good decisions, to trust ourselves, to improve the quality of our relationships.  We appreciate our life, body and know our worth. We treat ourselves with the love, value, and respect we deserve. This makes us better people.  Better parents, a better lover, a better friend, in turn improving the lives of others.

Of course, taking care of our bodies is essential for good overall health, but you will not find your self-esteem and self-belief on a spin bike, in a downward dog, or at the bottom of a spinach and celery juice.  Although beneficial these actions alone will not help you to achieve ‘your best life’ (can’t stand that saying!).

“When you put pressure on people to better themselves and don’t talk about the things around them that they can’t control, that leads to a lot of self-blame and a lot of self-criticism”. Dr. Tom Curran

Emotional and mental well-being is complex.  In fact, when you fail to lose the 10 pounds you were told would change your life, the vision board you spent hours gluing is unrecognisable, or your journal is empty…. we feel even worse.  We feel a failure, that we are not good enough.  And guess what…. our self-esteem and self-belief hit the floor (again).

“you will not find your self-esteem and self-belief on a spin bike, in a downward dog, or at the bottom of a green juice”.

It’s all well and good repeating ‘l am worthy’ in the mirror, but what a load of sh*t if deep down you don’t believe it.  Next time another wellness ‘expert’ tells you to breathe, vision board, or journal your way through the anxiety, loss, desperation, or loneliness you might be feeling right now, tell them to f**k off, because there is another way.

Our obsession with ‘wellness’ has become so focused on the ‘self’; self-improvement, self-optimisation, and self-indulgence. Yet we continue to overlook the critically important need for connection; to ourselves, each other, and nature.

At Beyond our Golden Key programme was created to restore your self-esteem and self-belief.  We know from experience the life-changing effects it has on each individual when you believe in yourself and approach life with great love and respect for who you are.  Find out more and take the self-esteem test.
